Not only is it pleasing for these boys to be exposed to such high quality football at this carnival, but equally important is the advice they received from referee coaches in support of their continued development as young referees. This, in addition to the camaraderie that they develop with the referees from other region s of our state, and with the boys from Queensland, instills in them what rugby is all about; participation, enjoyment and mateship.
Congratulations to all referees appointed to this carnival with special mention to Tim Hunt from Central North on his appointment to the senior division final.
This carnival is fast becoming a showcase for senior high school rugby with many of the GPS, Associated and Private Senior Colleges from New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria making the annual trek to both play rugby and enjoy the exceptional facilities(both sporting and academic) that the University of New England has to offer.
Our referees certainly enjoyed the opportunity to referee games of such high quality played in the true spirit of Rugby. In addition to the on-field enjoyment, the carnival dinner, which was attended by representatives from all teams, the referees as well as university and ARU staff, again brought all together to enjoy the camaraderie that our game offers.
Congratulations to Andrew Birch on his appointment to the final of this carnival – a game played in great spirit but terrible conditions with driving rain from kick off to final siren.
Rod had high levels of competition from all eight referees at the carnival and thoroughly deserved his appointment.
Other finals at the carnival were refereed by Andrew Birch (Mid North Coast) who officiated in the Richardson Shield final and Brendon Farrar (Newcastle Hunter) who did the Colts final.

NSW Country Rugby Union Referees Association has a proven pathway for promising referees to attain higher level appointments. In recent years, with the support of NSW Referees, members from our squads have successfully moved in to the Sydney Premiership, in to Super Rugby and Test matches. These referees include Nathan Pearce, formerly from Central West who has been appointed to both Super 15 and Test matches and more recently Guy Grinham (Central Coast) who is currently refereeing in the Sydney Premier Rugby Competition.
Hopefully, we will see Alex and Brendon follow in the footsteps of Nathan and Guy.
The Armidale School Primary Schools Carnival
This carnival was held on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 April, 2011. Over the two days in excess of 120 games were played. NSW Country Referees appointed 15 referees from both our Academy and Referee Advancement Programs to this carnival. These young referees were joined by 5 other up and coming referees from the Sunshine Coast Grammar School (Qld). Over the two days, these young referees performed exceptionally well with compliments coming from carnival organizers, coaches and parents alike. Not only is it pleasing for these boys to be exposed to such high quality football at this carnival, but equally important is the advice they received from referee coaches in support of their continued development as young referees. Alex Kennedy and Brendon Farrar 1st Appointments to NSWCRU Champs
Congratulations to both Alex Kennedy and Brendon Farrar from Newcastle Hunter Referees Association on their initial appointment to the NSW Country Senior and Colts Championship carnival.
