City Country Rivalry Resumes Heading Detail

The NSW Country Cockatoos will be looking to extend bragging rights for another twelve months when they meet NSW Suburban in the annual grudge match this Friday in the Super 14 curtain raiser at the Sydney Football Stadium.

The Cockatoos won last year’s fixture 35-22, however Subbies will be keen to turn the tables and are fielding an extremely talented side in 2010.

Former West Harbour tryscoring machine John Sinisa has moved to Drummoyne in the off-season and will guide the team from fullback, while ex-Norths flyer Anthony Shortis is on the wing.

Ex-Pirate backrower Ben Lonsdale will lead the side from the second row.

The Cockatoos however go into the match with good form having upset the ACT Senior Representative side 16-13 in the Brumbies-Reds curtain raiser two weeks ago.

The Country team features a number of players who have been invited into pre-season training blocks with the HSBC Waratahs over the last two seasons.

Adding a special element to the game will be the presence of Narromine flanker Lachlan McCutcheon packing down on the blindside of the Country scrum. His brother Pat will run out later in the evening in the same position for the HSBC Waratahs in their must-win Super 14 clash against the Hurricanes.

Gates at the Sydney Football Stadium open at 4:45pm before the curtain raiser kicks off at 5:00pm.
