Cockatoo Colts Kick Off on Gold Coast

This weekend sees the Cockatoo Colts participate in the Gold Coast Colts Tournament which is being hosted by the Queensland Country Rugby Union.
The tournament will be conducted over the three days of the long weekend, with teams from the Northern Territory, NSW Country, Qld Country, Qld Invitation XV, South Australia and Victoria participating.
NSW Country has drawn the Qld Invitation XV in their first match who come into the tournament as the dark horses, as little is known about their team or pre-tournament build up.
Cockatoo Colts Coach Mat Thomas said “there are dangers in taking any team lightly, especially in this tournament format, as you need to win every match to ensure you keep progresses towards the final”.
He went on to say “last month’s match against the ACT really opened the eyes of the players as to the standard of Rugby they need to play to be successful at the next step in the representative level”.
The opening round of the tournament sees the Cockatoo Colts v Qld Invitation XV, Qld Country v Northern Territory and South Australia v Victoria, with the three winners and the best losing team progressing into the championship round.
The Gold Coast Colts Tournament will be played at the Palm Beach Currumbin Rugby Club grounds on 9, 10 & 11 June 2012.
