Cockatoos & Colts Head South Heading Detail
The NSW Country Cockatoos and Cockatoo Colts head to Canberra this weekend for the annual series of matches against the ACT.
The Cockatoos’ match against the ACT will be played as the curtain raiser to the Brumbies v Reds S14 Match at Canberra Stadium on Saturday, 1 May kicking off at 5.25pm.
Seven new players will be making their debut for the Cockatoos in what should be a fiercely contested match given the history of the previous encounters between the two teams over the years.
The Cockatoos will be relying on their forwards to secure an even share of ball, with experienced campaigners Josh Woodford (prop), Matt Waterford (lock) and the back-row trio of Jeff Wilson, Ben Colley and Lachlan McCutcheon to lead the way.
A huge plus for the Cockatoo backline is six players will be backing up from last year’s team, giving them an established and settled combination which will have their hands full facing an ACT team keen to run the ball.
On Sunday, 2 May at Vikings Rugby Park the Cockatoo Colts take on the ACT Junior Academy with the match kicking off at 1.00pm.
The Cockatoo Colts will go into the match with a lot of confidence as they have played two lead up matches against Sydney Premiership Colt Teams Eastern Suburbs and Randwick for two solid wins.
Six players from 2009 form the basis of the team, which has a solid pack of forwards and a set of backs which have scored a mountain of points.
