Cockatoos & Colts take on QLD Country

The NSW Country Cockatoos and NSW Country Cockatoos Colts representative season will conclude when both teams will meet their arch rivals the QLD Country Blue Heelers at Southern Beaches Rugby club this Saturday.

Both teams will be competing for the Battle of the Borders Cup, with QLD Country holding it with a narrow victory in 2016. The annual fixture showcases the talent that both states produce and how important the Country pathway is for aspiring Rugby players in regional areas of both NSW and QLD.

Cockatoos Head Coach, Mat Thomas, says. “Whilst we have played well in patches in our two victories, we know the QLD Country are the current holders of the shield and we will have to step up another few gears to get the result on the weekend.

“The NSW Country Cockatoos and NSW Country Cockatoos Colts are very excited about this weekends fixtures and we relish the opportunity to come together with the Colts for what will be a great day of Rugby”.

Following the conclusion of the games NSW Country Cockatoos and NSW Country Cockatoos Colts will have their annual awards dinner to recognise and acknowledge players, coaches and volunteers that provide this wonderful representative opportunity.

Both teams will announce their respective best and fairest players for the 2017 representative program which is a most coveted award. The Will Tanner medal will be awarded NSW Country Cockatoos award their best and fairest.

Mat Thomas said about the Will Tanner Medal, “to be acknowledge by your teammates as the best player in NSW Country Rugby is an enormous accomplishment and I know from talking to all the players that they all hold the medal and the recognition in the highest regard”.
