Country Feature at NSWRU Awards Night Heading Detail

New South Wales Country Rugby Union has featured prominently at the recent New South Wales Rugby Union Awards Night.

The night was held on Monday, 27 September 2010 at the Citigate Hotel, Sydney to recognise and acknowledge the achievements of players, coaches, officials, referees and volunteers.

Three Country players were acknowledged for their outstanding on-field performances; while a long standing Country Referee was the recipient of a state-wide award.

Matt Waterford (Bathurst Rugby Club) was presented with the Will Tanner Medal in recognition of being named the NSW Country Rugby Union Senior Player of the Year.  Waterford captained the NSW Country Cockatoos to a record undefeated season, which incorporated wins over the ACT, Darwin, Melbourne, NSW Suburban and Queensland Country.

Daniel Damen (Wollongbar Alstoneville Rugby Club) was acknowledged as the NSW Country Junior Rugby Union Player of the Year.  This is the second year in succession a player from Wollongbar Alstonville has taken out the award, capping off a season which saw him represent Far North Coast, NSW Country and New South Wales in the U17’s.


Tobie McGann (Newcastle University) was awarded the New South Wales Rugby Union Womens Player of the Year in recognition of her outstanding achievements with Hunter, Country Corellas and Wallaroos, which included participation at the Seven RWC in 2009 and RWC in 2010.

Steve Miller (Far North Coast) was named as the New South Wales Rugby Union Volunteer of the Year which acknowledged his long term involvement as a referee, both on and off the field.  He will now become the NSW Rugby Union nomination for the Australian Rugby Union Volunteer of the Year which will be awarded at the John Eales Medal Dinner.
