Laurie Gets Life Membership Heading Detail

The New South Wales Rugby Union has honoured Laurie Maher by awarding him Honorary Life Membership at the Union’s Annual General Meeting.

Laurie Maher has been a long term servant to Rugby for over thirty years, which has seen him have a strong involvement at Club, Zone, State and National Levels.

His Rugby involvement commenced in the late seventies when he was a foundation member of the Kariong Rugby Club, after which he progressed to hold various positions on the boards of the Central Coast, NSW Country and NSW Rugby Unions.

His involvement on the field was both as a player and referee, but it was as an administrator that he made his mark, which saw him become President of the Central Coast and NSW Country Rugby Unions.

In 1990 he was appointed as Administrator of the NSW Rugby Union and he continued his involvement with the Union as the Country Delegate and Director until he stepped down at the end of his term in 2009.

During his time with NSW Rugby Union he was a Council Member and Voting Delegate to the Australian Rugby Union.

NSWRU Life Membership coming on top of the same honour being bestowed upon him by the Kariong Rugby Club, Central Coast Rugby Union and  New South Wales Country Rugby Union.
